The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines released a statement on Wednesday, urging Chinese nationals and tourists in relevant areas to immediately stay away from the coast, make emergency preparations, and ensure personal safety, following an 8.8-magnitude earthquake that struck waters off the eastern coast of Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula at 7:24 am Beijing time (52.53°N, 160.16°E) at a depth of 20 kilometers.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology on Wednesday warned residents in the coastal areas to stay away from the beach and not to go to the coast.
People are also advised by the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines to closely follow weather alerts and disaster prevention information issued by local authorities, and to avoid going to affected coastal areas until the warnings are lifted.
