When asked to comment on reports that Taiwan regional leader Lai Ching-te has delayed his planned trip to Latin America to visit so-called "diplomatic allies" after the US rejected his planned "transit" through New York, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said that the one-China principle is a fundamental norm in international relations and a prevailing consensus of the international community.

Upholding the one-China principle represents a just cause, reflects the will of the people, and is the prevailing trend. The Lai Ching-te authorities' attempts to seek "Taiwan independence" through provocative acts are doomed to fail. They will not shake the firm international consensus on the one-China principle, nor can they stop the historical trend of China's eventual reunification, said Guo.

We also urge the so-called "diplomatic allies" of the Taiwan region not to be repeatedly manipulated and exploited by "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, but instead to see the situation clearly, return to the right path, and make the correct decision that aligns with the trend of history and serves the long-term interests of their own people at an early date, said Guo,
