Two Chinese men suffered severe injuries after they were attacked on the street by four men using iron pipes in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo of Japan, at around 9 am local time on Thursday, according to the report by Jiji Press.
According to the report by Jiji Press, the four attackers fled the scene, and the police are currently searching for them. The report said the two victims said they had no prior acquaintance with the attackers and that no demands for money or anything else were made.
The two Chinese men were walking down the street when they were attacked by four men wielding iron pipes, sustaining serious head injuries, and bleeding. Media reported that four attackers were men wearing hoodies and work uniforms. After the attack, they fled toward the Akihabara subway station and escaped in a car with a Kansai license plate, according to the report.
Following the incident, the Chinese Embassy in Japan immediately contacted and extended condolences to the injured Chinese nationals, and visited the local police station in the jurisdiction where the incident occurred, urging the Japanese side to take swift action to arrest the suspect and bring the perpetrator to justice, according to the Embassy on Thursday.
In response to the recent rise of xenophobic sentiment in Japanese society, the Chinese Embassy has lodged a stern representation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, demanding that Japan take effective measures to ensure the safety and lawful rights of Chinese citizens in Japan.
The embassy also reminded the Chinese citizens and tourists in Japan to be vigilant and strengthen their personal safety precautions.
